Matthew 9 (NASB)
1 Getting into a boat, Jesus crossed over the sea and came to His own city.2 And they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralytic, Take courage, son; your sins are forgiven.3 And some of the scribes said to themselves, This fellow blasphemes.4 And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Why are you thinking evil in your hearts?5 Which is easier, to say, Your sins are forgiven, or to say, Get up, and walk?6 But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins--then He said to the paralytic, Get up, pick up your bed and go home.7 And he got up and went home.8 But when the crowds saw this, they were awestruck, and glorified God, who had given such authority to men.9 As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man called Matthew, sitting in the tax collectors booth; and He said to him, Follow Me! And he got up and followed Him.10 Then it happened that as Jesus was reclining at the table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were dining with Jesus and His disciples.11 When the Pharisees saw this, they said to His disciples, Why is your Teacher eating with the tax collectors and sinners?12 But when Jesus heard this, He said, It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick.13 But go and learn what this means: I DESIRE COMPASSION, AND NOT SACRIFICE, for I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.14 Then the disciples of John came to Him, asking, Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?15 And Jesus said to them, The attendants of the bridegroom cannot mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them, can they? But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.16 But no one puts a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and a worse tear results.17 Nor do people put new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the wineskins burst, and the wine pours out and the wineskins are ruined; but they put new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.18 While He was saying these things to them, a synagogue official came and bowed down before Him, and said, My daughter has just died; but come and lay Your hand on her, and she will live.19 Jesus got up and began to follow him, and so did His disciples.20 And a woman who had been suffering from a hemorrhage for twelve years, came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His cloak;21 for she was saying to herself, If I only touch His garment, I will get well.22 But Jesus turning and seeing her said, Daughter, take courage; your faith has made you well. At once the woman was made well.23 When Jesus came into the officials house, and saw the flute-players and the crowd in noisy disorder,24 He said, Leave; for the girl has not died, but is asleep. And they began laughing at Him.25 But when the crowd had been sent out, He entered and took her by the hand, and the girl got up.26 This news spread throughout all that land.27 As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed Him, crying out, Have mercy on us, Son of David!28 When He entered the house, the blind men came up to Him, and Jesus said to them, Do you believe that I am able to do this? They said to Him, Yes, Lord.29 Then He touched their eyes, saying, It shall be done to you according to your faith.30 And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them: See that no one knows about this!31 But they went out and spread the news about Him throughout all that land.32 As they were going out, a mute, demon-possessed man was brought to Him.33 After the demon was cast out, the mute man spoke; and the crowds were amazed, and were saying, Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel.34 But the Pharisees were saying, He casts out the demons by the ruler of the demons.35 Jesus was going through all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness.36 Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd.37 Then He said to His disciples, The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.38 Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.
John 1 (NASB)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.2 He was in the beginning with God.3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.6 There came a man sent from God, whose name was John.7 He came as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that all might believe through him.8 He was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light.9 There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man.10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.11 He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.15 John testified about Him and cried out, saying, This was He of whom I said, He who comes after me has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.16 For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace.17 For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.18 No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.19 This is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent to him priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who are you?20 And he confessed and did not deny, but confessed, I am not the Christ.21 They asked him, What then? Are you Elijah? And he said, I am not. Are you the Prophet? And he answered, No.22 Then they said to him, Who are you, so that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?23 He said, I am A VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS, MAKE STRAIGHT THE WAY OF THE LORD, as Isaiah the prophet said.24 Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.25 They asked him, and said to him, Why then are you baptizing, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?26 John answered them saying, I baptize in water, but among you stands One whom you do not know.27 It is He who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.28 These things took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.29 The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!30 This is He on behalf of whom I said, After me comes a Man who has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.31 I did not recognize Him, but so that He might be manifested to Israel, I came baptizing in water.32 John testified saying, I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him.33 I did not recognize Him, but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me, He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.34 I myself have seen, and have testified that this is the Son of God.35 Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples,36 and he looked at Jesus as He walked, and said, Behold, the Lamb of God!37 The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.38 And Jesus turned and saw them following, and said to them, What do you seek? They said to Him, Rabbi (which translated means Teacher), where are You staying?39 He said to them, Come, and you will see. So they came and saw where He was staying; and they stayed with Him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.40 One of the two who heard John speak and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peters brother.41 He found first his own brother Simon and said to him, We have found the Messiah (which translated means Christ).42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, You are Simon the son of John; you shall be called Cephas (which is translated Peter).43 The next day He purposed to go into Galilee, and He found Philip. And Jesus said to him, Follow Me.44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter.45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote--Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.46 Nathanael said to him, Can any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip said to him, Come and see.47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and said of him, Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!48 Nathanael said to Him, How do You know me? Jesus answered and said to him, Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.49 Nathanael answered Him, Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel.50 Jesus answered and said to him, Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these.51 And He said to him, Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see the heavens opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.
Galatians 5 (NASB)
1 It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.2 Behold I, Paul, say to you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will be of no benefit to you.3 And I testify again to every man who receives circumcision, that he is under obligation to keep the whole Law.4 You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.5 For we through the Spirit, by faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness.6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love.7 You were running well; who hindered you from obeying the truth?8 This persuasion did not come from Him who calls you.9 A little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough.10 I have confidence in you in the Lord that you will adopt no other view; but the one who is disturbing you will bear his judgment, whoever he is.11 But I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? Then the stumbling block of the cross has been abolished.12 I wish that those who are troubling you would even mutilate themselves.13 For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.14 For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.15 But if you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another.16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality,20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions,21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.26 Let us not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another.
